Have you got a mood board going for your wedding? If you are on Pinterest, then you kind of have – pulling together pictures of things that you love to create a vision for what your wedding day could be like.
I love creating mood boards for and with my couples to really help them to see all of the moving parts of their wedding in one, beautiful place. At Iced & Spliced our mission is to help create your dream wedding. But from working in the industry for many years, one of the things couples can struggle with is seeing all of the different options together. That is why, as part of the Iced & Spliced experience, we have introduced our mood board service. For each couple I create a bespoke mood board bringing together all of the choices into one beautifully coordinated moodboard to really help you to see your vision come together.
I’ve sat through many a consultation, merrily chatting away with the couple about their date, venue and guest numbers, but as soon as the question about ‘ideas and images’ is asked, the mobile phone appears and we get lost down a rabbithole of all sorts of images, which is key for choosing the right style for sure, but it can sometimes feel more confusing for you, because there are just so many options!
I started to wonder if there was a way I could make things easier for my couples in any of their future meetings with me or any other suppliers too.
I had a lightbulb moment (I love Despicable Me, if I’ve not mentioned that one before..lol) I realised that personalised Mood Boards were a great way forward.
Using any inspirational images the couple had already shared, along with some images of my own work, I could put together a board containing the different elements we’d use to create their dream wedding day
.From wedding cakes to chair dressing styles, centre pieces to place setting, the Mood Board builds a picture of styles and colour palettes, giving a cohesive feel to the look of the whole day.
A Mood Board is also a valuable tool when it comes to visiting other visually creative suppliers too.
Imagine pulling out your own printed mood board during your meeting with a florist, full of images of the flowers, bouquet styles and tones you love… even down to the buttonhole you’ve fallen for.
This will help your florist understand your vision, giving them something to bounce off, supplying you with images of their work, allowing them to advise you if what’s on your wishlist is in season and ultimately guiding you in costs and alternatives should your perfect bouquet blow the budget through the roof.
This also means you are not having to describe that tone of pink you want for the 10th time because everyone’s version of “Rose Pink” is so different. Having it there, on a mood board means there is no need for that conversation every time – you just show them the moodboard!
I love the creative side of building a mood board around specific colours or an entire theme. Dotted through this blog are generic boards I’ve put together using images from Pinterest, which aren’t my own work, but do help to create the look and feel of a particular style.
However, some of the later boards feature images from weddings we’ve created for our couples, so you can see the true end result.

With all that’s happened in 2020, we’ve not been able to roll out the mood board service as I would have liked. But as 2021 is approaching very quickly and this is the last blog of the year, I thought this blog would be the ideal opportunity to let you know all about the option… if you’re interested of course
I have another something fabulous bubbling away behind the scenes, but as that’s all still in the research and development stage at the moment, I’m going to keep that one under wraps… for now
